Dhemaji deputy commissioner Narshing Pawar on Monday met the leaders of various religions of the district at his office conference hall and discussed the prevailing situation in the wake of COVID19 pandemic.

The deputy commissioners asked the religious leaders to give up communal sentiments during the crucial time and appealed to them to work united to face the situation.

Stating that the district administration has already issued order prohibiting movement of persons and vehicular traffic during the lockdown period, Pawar asked to avoid mass gathering in the prayer places.

He also asked them to ensure adherence to the ‘social distancing’ norms during the lockdown period to prevent COVID19 transmission.

The deputy commissioner requested the people to have collective efforts to combat the situation and maintain close cooperation with the local administration.

The leaders of the religious groups in the meeting assured that they would act as responsible citizens to deal with this crucial period and mobilize their people about the preventive measures taken by the government against Coronavirus (COVID19).

Among others, Dhemaji superintendent of police Dhananjay Ghanawat, additional deputy commissioner Dipankar Das and district information & public relation officer (in-charge) Bharat Konwar also attended the meeting.

The district administration, following the nationwide lockdown, has restrained unauthorized movement of people and vehicles.

It has also taken some steps to ensure home delivery of food and essential items during the lockdown period.

As per a district administration report, as many as 2,289 people, who have returned to the district from different states of the country and abroad, have been put under 14-day ‘home quarantine’.

Out of them, about 1,589 have completed their home stay without showing any symptom of COVID19 infection.

The rest 700 people are still under quarantine, the sources informed.

The district health department of Dhemaji so far collected 58 swab samples of the suspected patients but the ICMR laboratory at Lahowal reported all the samples negative for COVID19.
