The Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai has been declared as a containment zone after 26 nurses and three doctors were found to test positive for COVID-19 within a week.

With the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) having declared the hospital as a containment zone, the entry and exit of people from the hospital is barred till all COVID-19 patients tests negative twice consecutively.

As per reports, the nurses who had been tested COVID-19 positive have been shifted from their quarters in Vile Parle to the hospital.

Out of the three doctors who had been tested COVID-19 positive, two of them have been admitted in SevenHills and one in SL Raheja Hospital.

Swab samples of more than 270 hospital staff and some patients have been sent for tests.

After a 70-year-old COVID-19 patient was admitted to the hospital and two of the nurses who had attended to the man tested positive for the virus sometime later, many of the other nurses in the hospital too got infected by the coronavirus.

The hospital staff has alleged that the infection spread rapidly as the management failed to quarantine the colleagues and roommates of the infected nurses.

The United Nurses’ Association alleged that they were not tested or removed from shifts till symptoms emerged, and were not given PPEs despite attending to suspected Covid-19 patients.

However, the hospital has denied the charges.
