Amid nationwide lockdown imposed in view of Covid19, cyclonic storm and lightning lashed the Barak Valley on Thursday.
The cyclonic storm, which severely struck the valley, has affected over 600 people.
In the Sangjurai area under Cachar district of the valley, one person died due to lightning strike.
The deceased has been identified as Makbul Hussain Mazumder as informed by sources.
The locals rushed him to the Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH) immediately after the incident where he was declared dead by the doctors.
On the other hand, cyclonic storm, coupled with moderate rainfall, came as a shock for the residents of Karimganj district too.
The cyclonic storm continued to lash Karimganj district for about half an hour and the Karimganj town area suffered a lot.
Several houses tumbled down like house of cards and gigantic trees got uprooted and fell over high tension electric cables resulting in interruption of power supply.
The areas which were mostly affected in the storm are Sarisha, Suprakandi, Langai, Karnamadhu and Maijgram.
According to sources, several areas in Badarpur and Panchgram also suffered due to the storm.
As per a weather report from India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rain occurred at a few places over Arunachal Pradesh.
Light rain occurred at isolated places over Assam and dry weather prevailed over Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura during last 24 hours.
According to the weather forecast, moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at many places over Arunachal Pradesh in the next 24 hours.
As per the report, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at a few places over Assam and Meghalaya and light rain/thundershowers is very likely to occur at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura in the next 24 hours.
