Keeping in view of the Covid19 outbreak, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said the next one week is ‘very crucial’.
He said if India is able to contain the number of Covid19 cases that the country has right now, the damage will not be that much.
The chief minister said this after his interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing from the state secretariat on Thursday.
“It was a general discussion about the situation in the country as a whole,” the Meghalaya chief minister said.
“Most states are facing similar challenges in terms of medical equipment and the personal protective equipment (PPEs), and masks. This is a similar challenge we are also facing,” he said.
He said the Prime Minister mentioned about the fact that infrastructure and Covid19 hospitals need to be identified which most states have done including Meghalaya.
“He (PM) also stressed on the fact that we need to continue social distancing. He also mentioned that the entire process and battle we are having today with Covid19 is not simply that will go away on April 14,” said Conrad Sangma.
“This situation will continue in the sense that challenges will continue, but we need to learn and figure out how to move ahead and how normalcy can come back.”
“At the same time different steps are taken to protect our people and minimize the impact of this particular virus,” the chief minister said.
Conrad Sangma said all these aspects were discussed and the PM has given assurance from his side that all support is given from the central government which is going on, and will try his best to help the states to overcome the challenges they are facing.
“It is an opportunity to bring everybody on board and listen to different states how they are facing the challenges and how they have taken steps to overcome those challenges,” said Conrad Sangma.
“It was a positive meeting, and it is a big challenge for every state and the country and the world as a whole,” he said.
“It is a very complicated situation and we have to be very careful and take all steps we can to ensure that the spread of this virus is minimized,” he said.
