Tripura is running without a newspaper.

Tripura is not publishing any newspaper since Thursday.

Due to the corona effect, the newspaper owners and publishers have shutdown their daily publications.

All the major daily newspapers now are depending on online edition or PDF version.

Some newspapers distributed their PDF version through social sites like whatsapp or Facebook messengers.

Ratan Biswas, an officer of Information and Cultural department of Tripura said there are 16 daily newspapers which are published from Agartala.

Altogether nearly 60 newspapers and periodicals are published from the state in different formats.

Maximum newspaper owners stopped their printing from Thursday.

And some more stopped their publishing from Friday.

Some editors also said since last few days, a good number of staff took leave scared of coronavirus.

“Papers were not going to districts and remote subdivisions after railways and public transports declared closure to prevent coronavirus outbreak,” Tripura Newspapers’ Society informed through a press release.

“We thought of circulating newspapers in Agartala but we had to think otherwise as the situation demands. Newspaper hawkers also denied going out in this situation. So the society decided to stop printing news papers till 31 March,” it added.

Tripura Patrika Bikreta Samity, the apex body of newspaper hawkers, complained of harassment by police and residents at different localities over the past few days.

Hawkers were even denied entry in some localities.

So now the state of Tripura is running without a newspaper.
