The Association of Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), a civil society organization in Meghalaya’s has demanded a probe into the alleged indiscriminate felling of trees along the Tura-Dalu Road in West Garo Hills.
Concerned over indiscriminate felling of trees the name of road widening works, the organization has sought an investigation by the Forest department in this regard.
“In the name of widening of the National Highway 51 (Paikan to Dalu), the corporation entrusted with the project, is indulged in cutting century-old trees indiscriminately. We are not against development efforts unless the process causes any kind of anxiety to the society,” ADE president Dalseng B Momin said in a statement.
The public works department (PWD) is allegedly cutting hundreds of trees in West Garo Hills to widen NH 51.
