US based cloud service provider Salesforce.com Inc has hired former State Bank of India (SBI) chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya as its India chief executive officer.

As per a Reuters report, the 64-year-old lady is expected to join her new position in Salesforce in April this year and her job location will be based in Mumbai.

Bhattacharya is currently the Chairman of SWIFT India, part of a global payments network.

She is also the first woman to lead SBI before retiring from the organization in 2017.

Bhattacharya, who joined SBI as a probationary officer in 1977, had held several positions during her career with the bank including working in foreign exchange, treasury, retail operations, human resources and investment banking.

Bhattacharya’s experience in various roles will indeed be useful for the expansion of Salesforce in India.

Salesforce will create more than 500,000 jobs and $67 billion in new business revenues in India through 2024, according to a 2019 report by International Data Corporation.

In January, Salesforce co-founder Parker Harris met India’s trade minister in New Delhi and briefed him on the company’s growth plans.
