One Bangladeshi national was arrested in South Salmara Mankachar district of Lower Assam for illegally entering into the Indian territory.

The Bangladeshi national has been identified as 35-year-old Ajahar Ali.

Ajahar Ali is the son of late Azimuddin, a resident of Behularchar Madhya Para under Rowmari police station in Kurigram district of Bangladesh.

He was arrested on Friday from Jhalurchar border village of South Salmara Mankachar district of Lower Assam.

Acting on a tip-off, officials from the Mankachar police station arrested Ali, who is suspected to be a cattle smuggler and was caught for entering into the Indian territory illegally.

Police have also recovered one cattle head from his possession.

Binod Das, officer-charge of Mankachar police station said, “He has been arrested under relevant sections of the Passport Act, Foreigners Act and IPC.”

It may be mentioned that two Bangladeshi nationals, suspected to be cattle smugglers, were arrested during a joint operation by BSF and Mankachar police in South Salmara Mankachar district of Assam in January this year.

Acting on a tip-off, the BSF and Mankachar police jointly launched a drive in Jhalerchar and Kukurmara villages, adjacent to the Indo-Bangladesh border and arrested two Bangladeshi nationals along with a herd of three cattle heads.

The duo was identified as 27-year-old Sahidur Islam, son of Late Habej, a resident of  Kowarchar village and 27-year-old Nasiruddin, son of Amirul Islam, a resident of Chengtapara village under Rowmari police station of Kurigram district in Bangladesh.

This was confirmed by Binod Das, officer-in-charge of Mankachar police station in South Salmara Mankachar district.

“During preliminary investigation, the duo admitted that they had entered India for purchasing cattle with the help of Bangladeshi touts,” police sources said.

The police also recovered three cattle heads from the possession of the two Bangladeshi cattle smugglers.
