Assam finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presented the last full-fledged Budget of the present government at 2 pm on Friday.

The Budget is expected to be a boon for 30 to 40 lakh families and it includes schemes that are expected to take the State towards progress and development.

In the last financial year 2019-20, the growth rate was at around 13 per cent in the State.

The finance minister had also stated that around Rs 73,000 crores was sent in the last financial year.

Here are key points from minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s budget speech:

Sports-tournaments to be held at Panchayat, Block, District and State levels, in Olympic disciplines.


Hima Das will be offered the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police.


New legislation to make teaching of Assamese as a compulsory subject in all English & other medium schools up to Class X.

However, the Assam government website has allegedly uploaded the Budget. It has created quite an uproar after which the website was closed down. But Northeast Now got access to some of the highlights of the Budget purportedly mentioned in the Budget. These are:


  • Rs 1,05,246.23 crore earmarked for Assam Budget 2020-21
  • Revenue earning expected to be at Rs 91,930.80 cr
  • Under ‘A’ category, subsidy will be given to 38 lakh domestic power consumers
