“In order to provide security to the lives and properties of the people of the state, Assam government has given importance for smart policing and smart police stations,” said Assam Chief Minister Sarbanada Sonowal.
He was speaking after inaugurating Margherita Police station under Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Images (MOITRI) scheme in Margherita on Friday
The police station is a part of the 73 police stations covered under the MOITRI scheme in the first phase.
The scheme aims for the overall improvement of police stations, re-dedicating the force to the service of people, creating a people-friendly environment with a modern scientific human approach.
“If the police personnel become smart, security can be given to the lives and properties of the people with an added emphasis on modern human approach,” Sonowal added.
He also said that every police station in Assam will be covered under the scheme.
Reiterating his government’s commitment to a responsive police force, Sonowal said that the guiding principle for the scheme is to create a good atmosphere in the police stations and bridge the gap between public and police.
The new Margherita Police station has been built with facilities like women cell with children corner, conference hall, male and female officer’s restroom, fire suppression system, solar campus light with a solar panel on the rooftop, maintenance legacy for three years etc.
