With an aim to make Goalpara’s Sri Surya Pahar a tourist-friendly archaeological site with all the necessary facilities, the district administration has initiated a number of schemes.

Goalpara deputy commissioner Varnali Deka on Friday inaugurated the newly constructed guest house at Sri Surya Pahar archaeological site.

The DC said that the guest house will fulfil a long pending demand of the tourists.

Besides, the district administration also handed over ten dustbins to the Sri Surya Pahar management committee.

These dustbins, which are donated by the Goalpara Municipality Board, would be placed all over the area.

In order to bring the administration closer to the public, the monthly District Development Committee (DDC) meeting was held at the guest house and the progress of various departmental schemes was discussed at length.

Sri Surya Pahar, located about 12 km from Goalpara town, is a religious site for three religions- Hindu, Jain and the Buddhist.

Every year, lakhs of tourists visit this place.

The site is also popularly known as the Ajanta-Elora of the Northeast.
