The district administration of eastern Assam’s Sivasagar has issued some restrictions at the Panidihing Wildlife Sanctuary.

Through an order, the district administration has prohibited picnic, illegal fishing, hunting, littering and playing of loud music in entire Panidihing Bird Sanctuary area.

The directive after reports of such activities reached the concerned authorities.

These activities result in creating unhealthy environment for the migratory birds and are detrimental for their nesting, rest and breeding ground during the winter season in the sanctuary.

It may be noted that Panidihing Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the northern part of Sivasagar district having reach wetland and eco-system within an area of 33.93 sq km.

The Panidihing Bird Sanctuary was declared as wildlife sanctuary in 1996 and is famous for migratory and resident birds of 165 species.

Through another order, similar activities have also been prohibited under Section 144 CrPC at entire Na-pukhuri area.

It may be noted that Na-pukhuri area is considered to be a very important site from the archaeological and ecological point of view.

The orders have come into immediate effect and will remain in force for a period of 60 days or until further order.

Any violation of these orders will be punishable under Section 188 IPC.
