Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday made several changes in the organizational structure of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Northeast.
Shah, the national president of the BJP, have made three new organizational appointments for Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura.
Phanindranath Sarmah has been appointed BJP’s state general secretary (org) for both Assam and Tripura.
Meanwhile, Anantha Narayana Mishra has been appointed as the state secretary (org) for Arunachal Pradesh.
Apart from making these appointments in the north-eastern states, Shah has also appointed Amitabh Chakravarthy as the state joint secretary (org) for West Bengal.
The major change in the organizational structure of the BJP in the eastern region of the country comes at a time when protests are going strong against the Citizenship Amendment Act (2019).
While the BJP calls these as regular appointments, many feel they are done with an eye to manage the anti-CAA sentiments prevalent in the northeast and West Bengal.
Meanwhile, Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb on Monday congratulated Phanindranath Sarmah for his new appointment and hoped that they will together be able to fulfill the prime minister’s vision of New India.
Deb tweeted:
‘I congratulate Shri Phanindra Nath Sharma ji on being appointed as the State General Secretary (org) of @BJP4Tripura. Together we will work to strengthen our organization and fulfill PM @narendramodiJi’s dream of New India.’
