A biopic on legendary folk singer Pratima Baruah Pandey is all set to hit the screens in 18 cinema halls across Assam on Friday.
Sonar Baran Pakhi(The Golden Wing), directed by Bobby Sarma Barua, chronicles the life of the Padmashree awardee and her love for folk music, as well as her association with legends like Bhupen Hazarika.
Barua said the biopic has won accolades in international film festivals. It has won the Grand Jury Prize for the Best Feature Film in the 15th Indian Film Festival held at Los Angeles and the Audience Choice Award at the 15th Dhaka International Film Festival.
Barua and actress Pratima Bora, who plays the lead role, arrived in Gauripur on Monday to seek the people’s support.
During a news conference at Gauripur public library, Barua said the 86-minute movie is produced by Assam State Film (Finance and Development) Corporation Ltd and BB Entertainment Private Ltd. It will release in 17 cinemas of the state on Friday.
Pratima Bora said, “It was a challenge to play the singer’s character.”
The film’s budget was Rs 30 lakh. It was filmed in different locations like Gauripur, Dhubri, Manash and Calcutta.
Barua said that it was filmed at various locations, including the folk singer’s residence in Gauripur town, Manas National Park, Guwahati and Kolkata.
The singer’s younger brother, Probir Coomer Barua said that though he had not seen the film, he had heard that the film had a lot of information about the life of the folk singer.
“But it all depends as how people react and accept the depiction of her life on reel,” he added.
