Bikash Jairu entered the annals of the glorious history of football in Sikkim by becoming the first Sikkimese footballer to score a goal in Indian Super League (ISL), the country’s premiere football league, the Sikkim Express reported.
The 27-year-old winger from Geyzing, the headquarter of West Sikkim district came in as a substitute to score the winner for Jamshepur FC against Mumbai City at Mumbai on Thursday evening with only six minutes left in the game.
His goal earned the crucial three points for his team brightening the chances of Jamshepur FC to qualify for the semi-finals.
Mentionably, six footballers from Sikkim are currently playing for their respective clubs in the ISL.
A visibly elated Jairu was quoted in the report as quite satisfied by his contribution in his team.
Another footballer from Sikkim Robin Gurung is also in the Jamshedpur FC squad as a defender.
The 2-1 victory over Mumbai City pushed Jamshedpur to the top four for the first time in this season.
The ISL debutants now have 22 points from 14 matches.
