Nagaland deputy chief minister Y. Patton on Thursday inaugurated the Doyang bridge over river Doyang on Thursday.

The bridge is located in between Tsungiki and Mukhami village on NH-61 (NH-2) in Wokha district.

According to the technical report presented by NPWD (NH) chief engineer K. Theunuo, the construction of the bridge began on January 22, 2016 and completed on April 30 this year.

Union ministry of road transport and highways sanctioned funds for the bridge, which was constructed by M/s T. Tachu & Co., the report said.

It said the78.44 metre RCC bridge has an approach road of 85 metres towards Wokha side and 95 metres towards Mokokchung side.

Inaugurating the bridge, Patton said it was a red letter day for the Nagas as it is going to impact many lives significantly.

He congratulated and acknowledged the people of the area for extending cooperation to the contractor as well as the department for completion of the bridge, the media cell of the deputy CM said in a release.

At the same time, he also appealed to the people to take ownership of the newly constructed bridge.

Patton said the two-lane road from Wokha to Doyang bridge has already been approved and it was under consideration from Doyang to VK Area under Zunheboto district.

He urged the people of the neighbouring villages to extend their full cooperation and take the responsibility for the smooth and successful completion of the approved two-lane road project.

Patton reiterated that the land ownership issue should not hinder any developmental activities.

The deputy CM appreciated chief minister Neiphiu Rio for taking special initiative in the construction of the bridge.

Patton urged union minister for road transport and national highways Nitin Gadkari for the revised estimate without which the project would not have been completed.

Nagaland minister for higher and technical education and tribal affairs Temjen Imna Along and advisors Dr Longriniken, Phukayi and Kazheto Kinimi besides government officials were also present on the occasion.
