Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania, addressing a meeting of the All Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union (AKRSU) in Tangla on Sunday, urged the Centre to grant Scheduled Tribes to the community at the earliest.

“If Koch Rajbongshis are not granted ST status soon then the community will lose every socio-political right in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC),” he said.

“The fundamental rights empowered by the Indian Constitution to the community are being snapped and it is the high time people formulate policies and actively participate for securing their rights and privileges,” he added.

Sarania further said, “Communities that have a rich legacy and history are being corned and their rights snapped at the behest of vested circles.”

Referring the ensuing BTC polls of 2020 Sarania said, “The guards of change are to change here and it is high time the community stands united and give a befitting reply to the decades of misgovernance.”
