Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju said the Fit India movement must become a citizenโ€™s movement.

Rijiju was addressing the Conference of Ministers and Secretaries of the States and UTs for Youth Affairs and Sports in New Delhi on Friday morning.

โ€œPrime Minister Narendra Modi has directed every ministry that Fit India must be a part of their action,โ€ Rijiju said.

โ€œFit India is a way of life and it should be encouraged in such a manner that each state competes with the others on which is the fittest state in India,โ€ the minister reiteratedโ€.

โ€œIndia is fast emerging as a sporting powerhouse and in the last six months, the country has performed better in every field be it wushu or wrestling,โ€ Rijiju added.

He further said merely bagging a couple of medals in the Olympics is not enough.

โ€œIndia must be aggressive and aim for more than just a couple of medals in Olympics,โ€ Rijiju reiterated.

โ€œA sports culture should be created in the country and India must rank within the top ten in the Olympics,โ€ Rijiju said.
