In a major economic boost to the kiwi growers of Arunachal Pradesh‘s Lower Subansiri, the first consignment of organic kiwi weighing 10 tonnes was dispatched to Big Basket Super Market Supplier Pvt Ltd.

The dispatch has been made by the Subansiri Organic Kiwi Cardamom Farmers Producer Company and Ziro-based Kiwi Growers Cooperative Society Ltd.

The vehicle carrying the consignment was flagged off by deputy commissioner Chukhu Takar from the market area of Ziro.

This is for the second year the online supermarket giant, Big Basket has purchased kiwis from Ziro.

Speaking on the occasion, Big Basket marketing manager Bismoi Saikia said, “The demand for organic kiwis, which are sweeter than the conventionally grown ones, has surged in recent times.”

“If the roads were better, trucks with larger capacity could have been arranged,” he added.
