Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga, on Wednesday, promised to make a massive effort to develop the newly created Sinlung Hills Council (SHC) area in the northeastern part of State.
The ruling MNF and Hmar People’s Convention (HPC) combine on Wednesday launched a massive campaign for the first general election to a 12-member SHC council to be formed shortly.

Addressing a kick-off for the said campaign, at SHC headquarters, in Sakawrdai village Zoramthanga said, “Our government would make an all-out effort to transform the council area from being a dark (underdeveloped) area into an enlightened one.”
“For decades, SHC area, which is predominantly inhabited by the Hmar people, has been derogatorily called the ‘dark area of the North’ as it not only lacked development, but, remained neglected also,” said, Zoramthanga
Zoramthanga added, “My government would make a massive effort to implement the peace accord signed between the Mizoram government and the erstwhile underground Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic) on April 2 last year for an all-round development of the Hmar dominated areas.”
His party would also take massive effort to usher in development in the council area, for which, he even expressed happiness for the MNF-Hmar Peoples Convention (HMAR) alliance in the run up to the elections.
The MNF president reiterated that their main rival party Congress is no more a big threat to the MNF-HPC combine as the national party has greatly lost its ground in almost all regions of this country.
Zoramthanga was accompanied by education minister and Tuivawl constituency MLA LalchhandamaRalte and a host of other Hmar leaders.
Ralte said, “The MNF government headed by Zoramthanga is giving utmost concern to the development of the Hmar people.”
HPC president Thangliensung, who too spoke on the occasion, thanked the chief minister and the MNF government for giving them opportunity to elect their representative through an adult franchisee for the first time after more than 22 years of an interim government.
The elections for the Sinlung Hills Councils would take place on November 5 next for which 42 candidates are in fray.
