Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday informed the state has topped the list of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) business registration among the states of Northeast.

โ€œThe rapid growth of businesses in Manipur has been possible due to the state governmentโ€™s aggressive push for business and entrepreneurship under the Start-up scheme,โ€ Singh said.

โ€œThe Manipur Start-up policy has supported over 100 new businesses during the last one and half years. Large numbers of innovative businesses are growing very fast,โ€ he added.

โ€œAs per the Annual Report (2018-19) of Ministry of MSME, Manipur alone has 12,438 MSME businesses, the highest in the Northeast from 2015 to 2019,โ€ Singh further said.

โ€œThe figure is higher than the remaining states of the Northeast combined, which is 6,696 businesses,โ€ Singh added.

Singh also informed that overall 68.25 lakh MSME businesses filed Udyog Aadhar Memorandum (UAM) in the country during the period.

โ€œManipur also topped in women ownership of MSME businesses,โ€ the CM further informed.

โ€œ50 per cent of the MSME businesses in Manipur is owned by women. The national figure is 20 per cent,โ€ Singh further infomred.

โ€œThe rapid growth in the MSME has boosted Manipurโ€™s GDP, which currently stands at 8 per cent,โ€ the CM further claimed.

โ€œThe state cabinet will soon approve the Stand-up policy- a scheme aimed at improving the economic condition of the minority communities of Manipur,โ€ Singh informed.
