Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) B D Mishra on Tuesday participated in a ‘Safai Abhiyan’(cleanliness drive) organized in the run-up to the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) in Itanagar.

Earlier before the drive, the Governor visited different wards and departments of the TRIHMS, including the central laboratory, blood bank, cardiology and radiology.

Mishra made on-the-spot visits of those facilities which are yet to be commissioned due to administrative hitches.

He also discussed about the shortages of manpower in the institute.

The Governor, while interacting with the doctors and staff of the hospital said that like any other new institute, TRIHMS also is undergoing the phase of teething troubles such as resources limitation, manpower constraints and infrastructure insufficiencies.

“Notwithstanding that what is important is how we address the problems and move forward with what so ever resources we have,” he said.

The Governor exhorted the doctors, nurses and the staff to work with passion and resolve to improve the working milieu of the institute and the care and treatment of the patients.

He advised the TRIHMS incumbents to try hard and work with common goal of moving forward.

With sincere and concerted efforts, we can make a good effect and visible change in TRIHMS performance, Mishra said.

The Governor on the day also participated in a programme organized to celebrate ‘International Day for Elderly people’ at TRIHMS.

He distributed wheelchairs, walking aids and blankets to physically challenged people and senior citizens, sponsored by Anya Ratan, the chairperson of Oju Welfare Association and Minoti Riba, wife of former chief minister Late Tomo Riba.

Speaking on the occasion, Mishra complimented Oju Welfare Association and Minoti Riba for the benevolent gesture.

“It is the duty of every citizen to take care of your elders. Let us pledge not to abandon our elders nor allow any elder to be disowned,” he said.

Interacting with the students and teaching faculty of TRIHMS during the programme, the Governor said that the profession of medicine is a noble one.

Their involvement and commitment of the doctors and nursing staff towards their patients are very important, he said.

You (students) must work with the motto ‘Service and honesty to profession’ and rise to the expectation of your patients, Mishra added.

The Governor further urged upon all the stakeholders to put in a concerted efforts to make TRIHMS the most sought for medical college in the country.

The Governor shared his concerns regarding assault on doctors and nursing staff and said that with more awareness, it will decrease.

Earlier, TRIHMS director, Dr Moji Jini briefed the Governor on the challenges of the medical college.

First Lady Neelam Misra, health and family welfare secretary P Parthiban, TRIHMS dean Professor P Jayakumar, chief medical superintendent Dr Hage Ambing were present on the occasion.

The ‘International Day for Elderly people’ was organized by the NCD Clinic of TRIHMS and Arunachal Pradesh State Health Society.
