Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh’s (RSS) Sarsanghchalak (Chief) Mohan Bhagwat is scheduled to visit Silchar on a three-day trip to the Cachar district beginning on Friday.

Disclosing this to Northeast Now, Silchar RSS Karyalay Pramukh Subhrangshu Sekhar Bhattacharjee said, “Upon his arrival on Friday afternoon, Mohan Bhagwat ji would interact with RSS functionaries from across Northeast.”

“This is a part of our in-house discussions and it will be held at Vivekananda Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ramnagar, on the outskirts of Silchar Town. He will return on Monday,” he added.

Assam finance minister and North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convener Himanta Biswa Sarma recently visited Silchar and declared to pass the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, in November.

In such a situation, political experts feel that Bhagwat’s visit to the region is of great significance.

After Sarma’s assurance in Silchar that not a single Hindu family would be sent to the detention camps, Bhagawat on Tuesday night sealed the issue by saying “Indian means Hindu”.

Addressing foreign journalists in Delhi, the RSS Chief on Tuesday categorically said no Hindu can be deported from India.

“The Hindus whose names are missing from the final NRC in Assam will have to be incorporated at the earliest,” Bhagawat said.

“Modi-led NDA government has only said that those minorities persecuted from Bangladesh and Pakistan can find a shelter in India,” the RSS chief said.

“But the RSS’ stand is very clear. Any Hindu persecuted on religious lines anywhere in the world, can come to India,” Bhagwat had said to the foreign journalists.
