Childline Roing, a 24-hour phone emergency outreach service for children in need of care and protection, was inaugurated by Lower Dibang Valley deputy commissioner Mitali Namchoom at Mayu-I in Roing on Monday.

Childline Roing, the second in the state, is a project of the union ministry of women and child development linking the state government, NGOs, allied system and the corporate sector.

It is being implemented in Lower Dibang Valley district by AMYAA, a Roing-based NGO.

Namchoom advised the members to attend to any and all distress calls made in the helpline number in a responsive and sensitive manner.

She said all cases should be dealt with a humanely approach as it is the helpless and the distressed who will be seeking help through the Childline number.

RK Paul Chawang, the director of AMYAA explained the Childline service and expressed the organisation’s commitment and efforts in seeing that every child gets the right to enjoy his or her fundamental rights.

He also informed the gathering about the awareness camps conducted for business establishments, government departments and households on the Childline service.

N Sora, officer-in-charge of the Roing police station, also spoke on the occasion where the ICDS deputy director, representatives of BSNL, Labour and Employment departments were present.

Any one below 18 years of age can use the 24×7 and toll-free outreach service number 1098 or 03803-223027 to inform or seek help regarding cases of child labour, missing children, abused children, runaway children, children needing medical assistance and abandoned children.
