Two days after the vandalism in Dibrugarh town during the celebration of Muharram, superintendent of police (SP) Subashini Shankaran was on Friday transferred to 10th APBn, Guwahati.
Gautam Bora, commandant of the 10th Assam battalion, has been posted as Dibrugarh SP.
According to sources, Dibrugarh SP Shankaran has taken step against vandalism during Muharram procession and two persons were arrested in connection with the incident. Later, they were granted bail.
SP Shankaran was hailed by the residents of the district as she launched massive crackdown against the drug trafficking and cattle smuggling in Dibrugarh.
Dibrugarh police managed to arrest many cattle smugglers and seize huge quantity of drugs from different parts of the district after she taking charge as the SP.
“Certain forces were not happy with her as she took strong action against drug trafficking and cattle smuggling. They did not want her in Dibrugarh as SP since their interests were badly affected,” said a local resident on condition of anonymity.
She has been made scapegoat, said some residents of Dibrugarh.
Shankaran joined as Dibrugarh SP on January 22, 2019.
