Over 15,000 soldiers will take part at the Mountain Strike Corps’ maiden exercise, ‘HimVijay’, at over 10,000 feet in Arunachal Pradesh in October next.
They would be backed by tanks, medium artillery, helicopters and transport aircraft.
HimVijay will coincide with the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping scheduled for next month.
The exercise has been organised away from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
This is the first time that the Army will be seen in action its integrated battle groups (IBGs).
IBGs are touted to be the mainstay of future operational strategies in the Western, Northern and Eastern regions.
The entire exercise will be keenly observed by the top security advisors of the Narendra Modi government along with the Army chief.
Each IBG would consist of nearly 5,000 troops backed by a combination of tanks, artillery and other assets.
IAF will also be roped in for strategic airlift of personnel and equipment.
Besides helicopters from both the Army Aviation and the IAF, AN32s, C130J Super Hercules and the C17s will also be seen in the action.
“The exercise will be held in Arunachal Pradesh and will see in action three IBGs involving 5,000 troops each,” ThePrint reported quoting an army source.
The army, however, remained tight-lipped about the scope of the massive exercise.
“The exercise is being held a little further from the LAC,” ThePrint further reported quoting an army source.
