Mangaldai police on Thursday arrested one female teacher along with her husband for allegedly being involved in drugs peddling.
The accused have been identified as Jibesh Deka and his wife and they are the residents of Baghpori area of Mangaldai town.
Talking to the Northeast Now, officer-in-charge of Mangaldai police station Niranjan Baruah said that they raided Deka’s house after receiving a tip-off about drugs being stored in their residence.
The operation was led by Darrang‘s additional superintendent of police Ujjal Pratim Baruah.
The police team recovered four containers containing suspected brown sugar from Deka’s possession.
His wife is an assistant teacher at Bandiya LP School.
The accused teacher has been remanded to judicial custody and her husband was sent to the police custody by a local court for further interrogation.
A case under section 22-A of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, has been registered in Mangaldai Police Station.
The police on Friday sent the seized drugs to the forensic laboratory for confirmation.
Police infomred that value of each container is estimated to be Rs 1400 in the market.
