An eight-member boxing team of Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association [SABA] will represent Sikkim in the 3rd Junior Women’s Boxing Championship.

The championship will be held at National Boxing Academy, Rohtak in Haryana from September 8 to September 13 next.

The team will leave for the championship on Thursday.

The members are Yasika Rai [46 kgs], Sarathi Mukhia [48 kgs], Simron Pradhan [50 kgs], Ganga Biswakarma [52 kgs], Tenzing Palmu Bhutia [54 kgs], Muskaan Khatoon [57 kgs], Deepa Rai [60 kgs] and Yangchenla Lama Sherpa [63 kgs].

They will be accompanied by team coach Sunita Chettri, assistant coach Vabiya Gurung and manager Roshni Subba.

Pritam Shilal from Sikkim will also serve the championship as referee/judge.

The championship is being organized by Haryana Amateur Boxing Association under the aegis of Boxing Federation of India [BFI].

Addressing the media in Gangtok on Wednesday, SABA president Arjuna Awardee Jaslal Pradhan informed that the selection trial of the team was held on August 20.

The selection committee shortlisted eight pugilists out of around 30 participants.

“Except Sarathi Mukhia, Ganga Biswakarma and Simran Pradhan, rest of the pugilists are participating in the national championship for the first time,” he said.

He hopes that the team will perform well and bring laurels to the State.

Pradhan further that SABA has been continuously sending state teams in every national and regional championship.
