Aiming to mitigate environmental pollution in the state, the Manipur government plans to introduce e-rickshaws and electric buses and replace the existing modes of public transport.

This was informed by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday in a function where he distributed cheques of Rs 5000 each to 3080 eco-clubs of the state.

โ€œThe detailed project report is being prepared,โ€ said the CM.

โ€œSteps are also being taken for cleaning degraded rivers including the Imphal, Thoubal, Kongba and Iril, apart from the ongoing Nambul river rejuvenation project,โ€ he added.

The CM also urged all to put a halt on the rampant deforestation and large-scale poppy plantation on the hills as these have caused massive soil erosion.

โ€œAppointment of nine-year-old Elangbam Valentina Devi as the green ambassador of the state will encourage people to plant more trees and protect them,โ€ he said.
