Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union minister of environment Prakash Javadekar for sanctioning Rs 309 crores under Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) fund.

The CAMPA fund was sanctioned on Thursday for afforestation efforts and other activities to preserve the environment of the state.

The CM was interacting with the media on the sidelines on occasion of ‘Meeyamgi Numit’ (People’s Day) and Hill Leaders’ Day in Imphal on Friday.

Manipur government since 2017 has been organising ‘Meeyamgi Numit’ and Hill Leaders’ Day every month to hear the grievances of the public.

CM Singh personally distributed saplings to the people who turned up to highlight their grievances on Friday.

The CM in total distributed 1400 saplings including Indian Olive (Chorphon), Yellow Myrobalan (Manahi), Arjuna (Mayokpha), Indian Gooseberry (Heikru), Tree Bean (Yongchak) and others were distributed to the people.

On Thursday, union home minister Prakash Javadekar handed over a cheque of Rs 309 crore to Manipur forest and environment minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar.

Overall Rs 47,436 crore was distributed to 27 states as CAMPA fund.

Odisha received an amount of Rs 5,933.98 crore, followed by Chhattisgarh with Rs 5791.70 crore, and Madhya Pradesh with Rs 5196.69 crore.

Six states from the Northeast- Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya also received the funds for afforestation efforts.
