Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a ‘Fit India’ movement on the auspicious occasion of the 115th birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand.
Commemorating the occasion, Assam’s Cachar district sports officials too paid rich tributes to the legendary hockey player in Silchar on Thursday.

Gathering en-mass at the District Sports Association ground in Silchar, floral tributes were paid one by one, firstly, by the officials.
Later sportspersons from all disciplines took part in remembering the hero for which this day is marked as National Sports Day.
Chief advisor of DSA, Silchar, Badal Dey, addressing the gathering, said, “The laurels that Major Dhyan Chand brought for our country playing the game of hockey, cannot be expressed in words.”
He added, “A true magician he was, for which, kept mesmerizing his opponents all across the globe.”
“Adolf Hitler offered him the rank of a Colonel after Major Dhyan Chand and his team defeated Germany in the finals, which Dhyan Chand declined,” he added.
Badal Dey further said, “Even legendary cricketer Don Bradman watching Major Dhyan Chand play in Adelaide said that Dhyan Chand’s scoring goals was at the rate of scoring runs in a game of cricket.”
To commemorate the day, DSA Silchar also organized a friendly hockey match between combined teams of girls and boys, which was highly appreciated by the spectators watching them play.
