Based on specific inputs, Rowta Police apprehended a drug dealer from Aminpara village near Rowta in Assam’s Udalguri district on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as one Noor Hussain.

“We have recovered 50 kilograms of suspected ganja from the residence of the accused,” said Rowta officer-in-charge, Hemanta Baruah.

Police have also registered a case in this regard.

As per sources, the ganja is cultivated in hilly tracts of Bhutan and Boha in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Mazbat area in Udalguri district is conduit from where they are smuggled by train and bus to various parts of the State.

The weed is also reportedly mixed with toxic chemicals to increase the potential.

“Today’s young generation has two inevitable attractions one being high powered motor-bike and other being deadly drugs, the parents have to look after the activities of their kids,” said educationist, Prof Binoy Kumar Medhi.

He further observed that it is drugs which have pushed poverty striken youths to commit crimes like robbery for pawn items like latest gizmos.

Moreover he also exhorted young generation not to surrender oneself to drugs by quoting the line ‘Once an Addict, Always an Addict’.

As per medical science, consumption of these kinds of chemically altered drugs have both physical and mental ill-effects.

These include causing irritation to the lungs, and frequent smoking of these drugs can lead to breathing problems and phlegm.

This also leads to more frequent lung illness and a higher risk of lung infections.

Chemicals used as quantity increasers for these drugs highly affect the brain development of an individual.

After smoking marijuana, its ingredients reach their peak levels in the body within minutes, and effects can last up to an hour and a half.

The immediate effects of taking marijuana include rapid heart beat, disorientation, lack of physical coordination, often followed by depression or sleepiness.

Some users suffer panic attacks or anxiety.

Especially for the teenagers, these drugs tend to reduce thinking, memory and learning functions and affect how the brain builds connections between the areas necessary for these functions.
