Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs Danve Raosaheb Dadarao on Wednesday said his ministry is seriously considering to set up six more FCI godowns in Assam.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday had a meeting with Union Minister Dadarao at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati.
During the meeting, the duo had extensive discussion on the public distribution system.
Union Minister Dadarao sought a plot of land from the government of Assam for setting up godowns for FCI in Assam.
He requested Chief Minister Sonowal to allot land for the same.
The Union Minister also stressed on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s importance for the development of the Northeast.
Sonowal said very shortly he will allot suitable land for establishment of the FCI godowns.
He also said considering huge supply of commodities to the state, the Union Minister asked for using the State warehouses on payment basis for the benefits of the State government.
The discussion also stressed on creating adequate infrastructure for extending benefits to the farmers for acquiring and purchasing food commodities.
Chief Minister Sonowal also thanked the Union Minister for his visit to Assam to take some proactive steps to ensure seamless supply of essential commodities in the state.
Assam Minister of Industries and Commerce Chandra Mohan Patowary and MLA Prasanta Phukan were also present at the meeting.
