The Bodoland Territorial Council tourism department is going to host first Bodoland international paragliding accuracy championship from November 10 to 15 later this year.
The championship will be held at Ontai-gufur Dangdhufur Chokrosila wildlife sanctuary in Kokrajhar of Assam.
Speaking to newspersons, Mahan Brahma, director cum CHD tourism department BTC said that ‘we are going to organize first Bodoland international paragliding accuracy championship from November 10 to 15, 2019,at Dangdhufur Ontaigufur in Kokrajhar, Assam.
He said that BTC tourism department first time introduced paragliding in 2013 during Bhaokungri festival, where they invited pilots from Sikkim to train up the talented local youths.
Brahma said that the Bodoland Territorial Council Tourism department has started paragliding adventure Sports from 2013, Bhaokungri Festival and since then, ‘we have been finally spotted at international paragliding map’.
He asserted that the BTC tourism department generating employment by building opportunities on paragliding to local youth and making them self employed and department being supportive and motivating them to ensure that they are equipped with all the techniques in safe flying.
Bodoland Tourism has owned three paragliding pilots and launched for commercial flies regularly at Ontai Gufur Dangdhufur in Kokrajhar and which they have been participating various national events of paragliding competition in the country.
Braham said that around 70 pilots from several countries and pilots from India will be participating in the first Bodoland International Paragliding Accuracy Championship.
He adding that as many as 15 countries including Thailand, Indonesia , Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Switzerland and national pilots from Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Pune, Manali etc will be participating in the events.
The director said that in keeping all the views in respect adventure tourism, ‘we proposed for organizing the first Bodoland Paragliding Championship 2019 at international level for identification and promotional purposes and paragliding to touch the heights of the excitement by flying up in the sky’.
He said that the BTC tourism department has been aiming to establish a paragliding training centre near at Dangdhufur Ontai-Gufur in Chokrasila wildlife sanctuary in Kokrajhar to train up the local youths as well as across the northeast India.
