For hoisting the ‘Naga national flag’ on August 14 on the eve of 73rd Independence Day, the Nagaland government has pulled up the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF).
The state home department issued an order to all the deputy commissioners in Nagaland on Tuesday.
“Nagaland government has taken notice of a statement from the NSF directing its federating units to hoist the ‘Naga flag’ on the occasion on ‘Naga Independence Day’ on August 14,” reported The Free Press Journal (TFPJ) quoting M Patton, commissioner of Nagaland.
“According to the order, this directive from the NSF is bound to create an unwanted situation and may lead to grievous law and order problem,” the report added.
Patton directed every district commissioners to convene a meeting with NSF under their respective jurisdiction.
“NSF should be made aware about the legality of their action and maintain,” Patton added.
The DCs have also been asked to constantly keep communicating with NSF so that the laid down norms are not violated in any manner.
The NSF had earlier stated that the Naga national flag would be hoisted to commemorate “Naga identity”.
It is the Naga insurgent groups that generally hoist the Naga national flag at their designated camps on August 14 celebrating Naga independence.
“The flag will be hoisted in all Naga-inhabited areas of Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar,” reported TFPJ quoting NSF president Ninoto Awomi.
“This will be in commemoration of our identity, history etc. This is the celebration of our identity. The celebration, however, does not mean we are against India,” Awomi added.
