Sikkim Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president, D B Chauhan expressed that the joining of 10 legislators of Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party was in the interest of the people and for development and progress of the State.

He expressed his hoped that these ten legislators will now play the role of a strong opposition in the State Assembly in the interest of Sikkim and its people.

He confirmed that ten legislators of SDF party have officially joined BJP in the party national headquarter in New Delhi on Tuesday in the presence of working president, J P Nadda and national general secretary, Ram Madhav.

Speaking to the media persons, Chauhan expressed that these legislators desired to join BJP in the interest of Sikkim and its people and for the development of Sikkim.

He also said that the party high command took this decision in the interest of the people of Sikkim and for the development and progress of the State.

“We are hopeful that these 10 MLAs will deliver the role of a strong opposition in the State Assembly,” he said.

He further added that the party high command has also given the strong direction to these 10 legislators to play the role of a constructive opposition.

“We will do positive criticism of the works of the government in the State,” he said.

Responding to queries of media persons, BJP state president stated that BJP was a party run by the organization and follows the principle of the nation first, party second and self last.

He added that no person can influence the party but it will be run by the organization.

“We will work with our legislators together to expand and strengthening the organisation of BJP in the State,” he said.

“Time will tell whether BJP will form the government in the State or nor but our legislators will raise the voice of the people in the Assembly and we are also working seriously for the upcoming by-elections in the State,” he responded.

Chauhan informed that he was in the constant touch with the national general secretary since yesterday on this issue and the decision has been taken in the interest of the people of Sikkim.

Responding to a query, he mentioned that SDF legislators must have understood now that BJP was not the party from the outside.

“We had tried our best to make them understand repeatedly and they have now realised it,” he added.
