Congress’s Rajya Sabha chief whip Bhubaneshwar Kalita, who resigned from the party on Monday, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday.
Kalita joined the saffron party at the party headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of Railway minister Piyush Goel.
Minutes after home minister Amit Shah moved the resolution to scrap Article 370, Kalita had resigned from Rajya Sabha over Congress’s stand against the abrogation of Article 370 and bifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Kalita is the second Congress MP from Rajya Sabha to resign in the recent past. Another Rajya Sabha MP of the Congress from Assam, Sanjay Singh joined the BJP on July 31.
