Four persons–a school teacher, a hospital staffer and two others–were on Wednesday arrested by police for their alleged nexus with ULFA (I) militants.
Police officials said Dibrugarh police arrested the four ULFA (I) linkmen from different places in upper Assam.
They were identified as Chayanika Kaman, Kabita Kaman, Kanak Pegu and Debajyoti Dowarah.
While Chayanika is a school teacher from Golaghat, Kabita is a college student from Dibrugarh.
Kanak works as an ICU technician in a private nursing home in Dibrugarh and Debajyoti is an unemployed youth from Sasoni in Naharkatia.
According to police, an ULFA (I) flag and seven mobile handsets were seized from their possession.
Police said the ULFA (I) is planning to carry out subversive activities with the support of the linkmen in upper Assam in the run up to the Independence Day.
“We have arrested four ULFA (I) linkmen from different areas of upper Assam. Four of them were working for the insurgent group.
“We have seized seven mobile sets and one flag of the outfit from their possession. We are investigating the matter and four of them were produced before court,” Dibrugarh ASP Dhruva Bora said.
Sources, some ULFA (I) linkmen were active in upper Assam and were collecting funds for the proscribed outfit.
