Manipur: Security forces recover large cache of weapons

Imphal: A large number of weapons with ammunition was recovered in integrated operations launched by the army, para-military personnel, and police at two hotspots in the southern and northern parts of Manipur.

The integrated operations were conducted at Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts which involved extensive planning and judicious use of explosive detection dogs, metal detectors, and other state-of-the-art equipment, officials said on Thursday.

These two districts predominantly inhabited are stated to be the epicenters of the ongoing communal violence in this state.

Based on intelligence inputs, the joint team of the state and central forces first launched an operation at the Sielmat village of Churachandpur District on Wednesday.

The operation was fruitful with the seizure of two Muzzleloading guns, seven 12-bore cartridges, and one Kenwood set.

In the follow-up action, the coordinated team also conducted an operation at Kangchup Ponlen village in Kangpokpi district.

The anti-insurgency campaigns ended with the recovery of one SLR with magazine, one .303 Rifle without bolt, one Single barrel Rifle, two Improvised mortar, one HE-36 Hand grenade, three live ammunition rounds, three Baofeng Radio sets, 29 detonators, and 14 fired cases.

Though no arrest has been made in the operations, the confiscated items were handed over to the state police for further line of action, the police added.
