Imphal: The Manipur government has issued a stern warning against the spread of fake and unverified information that incites panic among the public.
Officials in Manipur stated that those responsible for disseminating false information will face stringent action under relevant laws.
Rehanuddin Choudhury, officer on special duty for the Manipur home department, stated that rampant sharing of unverified messages on social media and other platforms would be taken seriously.
Choudhury highlighted that such actions contribute to unnecessary panic and disrupt public order.
He specifically addressed the rumours circulating about the deployment of additional central security forces to Manipur.

“It is a matter of grave concern that many rumours and speculations are being circulated on social media and online messaging platforms regarding reinforcement into the state. This speculation has no basis and should be ignored as misinformation,” Choudhury clarified.
He explained that the security personnel seen returning to Manipur were those originally requisitioned for the Lok Sabha elections, not new reinforcements.
The statement called on civil society organizations, media outlets, and individuals to refrain from amplifying misinformation that could inflame public sentiments and hinder the efforts of law enforcement agencies.
Choudhury reiterated that the Manipur government is actively working to control the current unrest and restore peace in the state.
Meanwhile, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh met with Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati recently to discuss the security concerns in Jiribam district, which borders Assam’s Cachar district.

Jiribam has been tense following the violence after the killing of 59-year-old farmer Soibam Saratkumar Singh on June 06.
Approximately 900 tribals from the Kuki and Hmar communities in Jiribam district of Manipur have sought refuge in Cachar district of Assam, while around 1000 people, mostly from the Meitei community, are sheltered in relief camps in Jiribam.
