Bus used by security forces torched by miscreants in Kangpokpi district of Manipur.

Imphal: A blaze destroyed a bus reportedly used by security forces to transport personnel in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Monday night, fire service sources said on Tuesday.

The bus engaged by the central para-military forces to transport personnel was set on fire by a mob at the Thomas ground of Kangpokpi district.

No casualties were reported.

The incident occurred at the Kangpokpi district headquarters when the bus was coming from Dimapur on Monday at around 9 pm.

A group of people belonging to one of the warring communities stopped the bus bearing Manipur registration numbers near the Thomas ground, Kangpokpi on the NH-102 and insisted that they would check if any member of the other community were on board, officials said.

Upon checking they found that the vehicle belonged to the Meitei community, and then some of them set the buses on fire in the presence of the security men.

A fire tender from the Kangpokpi district headquarters was rushed to the spot but the angry mob prevented the water tender from entering into the blazing site.

The bus was reduced to ashes within minutes.

Police said that a case in this connection has been registered and investigations are underway.
