Guwahati: A passenger bus caught fire on Wednesday in Assam’s Kaliabor, forcing nearly 40 passengers to evacuate safely.

No casualties were reported.

The bus, Geetanjali (AS 12 BC 9991), was travelling from Dimapur to Chulun with passengers heading to the two-day Sadbhavana Sammelan.

Preliminary reports indicate a mechanical issue in the engine triggered the fire.

The incident occurred near Hatiyakhowa.

Ulubani Police and the Kaliabor Fire and Emergency Services responded promptly, bringing the blaze under control and preventing further damage.

Officials are now examining the bus and investigating the cause of the engine failure.

Quick evacuation and the swift action of emergency teams helped prevent a possible tragedy.
