Guwahati: After thorough scrutiny of the nominations filed, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Assam on Monday said that the nominations of eight candidates, two from the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency, contesting for the third phase of the elections are cancelled.

According to the CEO, of Assam, the nominations of eight candidates contesting from four constituencies have been cancelled.

The candidates include one from Kokrajhar, four from Dhubri, one from Barpeta, and two from Guwahati Lok Sabha constituencies.

The electoral officer further informed that the nomination papers of 52 candidates have been found valid for the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

The two candidates whose nominations were cancelled from the Guwahati Lok Sabha seat are Nayan Das of the Bharatiya National Janata Dal and independent candidate Arpita Choudhury.

The candidates whose nomination papers were accepted are Bijuli Kalita Medhi of the BJP, Mira Barthakur Goswami of the Congress, Samad Choudhury of the Bharatiya Gana Parishad, Chejan Goyari of the Bahujan Maha Party, Amitabh Sharma of the Ekom Sanatan Bharat Dal, Dipak Kumar Boro of Voters’ Party International, independent candidate Kazi Nekib Ahmed, and independent Col. Gokul Chandra Singha.
